We were so grateful and excited about all the GREAT PLAYS that we received for our LOVE EXPERIMENT competition. After doing lots of reading, laughing, crying, and genuinely enjoying terrific writing we all agreed on the play that fully executed all the criteria of our hypothesis….
And the winner is….
GIFT OF AN ORANGE!!!!
In the moist heat of the bayou, where few people linger, Oshun brings lovers to her bed with the enchantments she conjures from her lush oranges “The only thing growing out here.” Taurean wanders into her life: young, hungry, dry from the road, lonely from the tragedies life has thrust upon him. Work is what he hopes to find but Oshun, eyeing him with lust, has different desires. As she weaves her spell, their connection may alter her beliefs, and perhaps her entire way of life.
Playwright Charlene Donaghy hit the proverbial nail on the head with this play. It not only fit all the criteria for our Love Experiment competition, but it smoothly aligns with our mission.
