Happy New Year!

With that said…now that we are past the Holidays and New Year’s festivities, The NUTLab has its sleeves rolled up and we’re ready to get back to work cooking up some exciting, entertaining and thought-provoking theatre. This year will see us enter new territory while strengthening our old favorites. We are really excited about 2012 and we want you along for the ride!

We have received wonderful responses to our donation letter and we are pleased to add several people as “LAB Partners”. Welcome to the NUTLab family.

As we enter our third year, we have made the important step of expanding our operations by putting together an Advisory Board. These are the people who have made a commitment to the growth of our company and we are thankful to have them. Currently our advisory board consists of seven members, and we are open to expanding. If you would like to get involved as an Advisory Board member, please contact Newubtl@gmail.com for more information on how you can help the NUTLab expand its mission.

Kicking off our roster, on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2012 at 3:00pm at the Allston Brighton Congregatinoal Church, we will be doing a reading of John Stenson’s Play, Hurrah for the Revolution. A play surrounding the heated and still mostly too hot for discussion topic of the beginning of busing in South Boston. This season will also see the return of The Five and Dime. This time around, for The Five & Dime, we are teaming up with Proscenium Playwrights, a consortium of several of Boston’s leading playwrights. For more information on the Proscenium Playwrights, visit their website www.prosceniumplaywrights.com. Our upcoming Five and Dime will feature pieces of their work including the Love Experiment contest winner Charlene Donaghy. The Five and Dime will take place in April, stay tuned for details.

Speaking of Charlene Donaghy….New Urban Theatre Laboratory will also produce a reading of her short play Another August at the Kennedy Center America College Theater Festival (KCATCF) on Friday, January 27, 2012. The reading will be directed by our own Artistic Director, Jackie Davis, and feature NUTLab Producing Manager/Resident Playwright Cliff Odle and two young actors from the University of Massachusetts Boston, Miguel Fana and Alycia Love Modeste.

Of course our crowning achievement for this season is our entry into the Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival. We will be presenting Ms. Donaghy’s contest-winning work, Gift of an Orange based on a Williams’ short story, Gift of an Apple. Gift of an Orange as the winner of our Love Experiment competition, will be the featured presentation of our Season Three production “…It’s A Love Thang”. Alongside Gift of an Orange will be The Delicate Art of Customer Service, written by Cliff Odle. “…it’s a Love Thang” run will run from September 6 – 15 in Boston, then we pack our bags (and “Oranges”)and head to P-Town with Gift of an Orange .The Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival runs from September 16 – 24, 2012. For more information please visit the Provincetown Tennessee Williams Festival website: www.twptown.org

Not that we’re sitting around twiddling our thumbs…we are already planning for next season and are excited to share that news with you over the course of the year. Thanks for being a part of our family and please put the dates down in your calendar, because you don’t want to miss a minute in the LAB!
